The Canadian Association of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that a child’s first visit to the orthodontist occurs as early as 7 years of age. There is no fee for the first exam and no dentist referral required. 

While very likely that no treatment will be required at that time, some problems tend to improve with natural growth and development. Other problems, if detected early, can be much easier to adjust and fix than if left until full dental development.
